Active Build Retainer

Who It's for
You have a software project actively in development with a vendor or external team, you want someone accountable for making sure what gets built matches what was agreed, and you're not in a position to evaluate technical progress yourself.
Investment:
$4,500 / month · 3-month minimum

Description:

You have a software project actively in development and you need more than strategic advice — you need someone watching the build closely. This retainer includes everything in the Steady Signal, plus regular attendance at your developer or vendor's sprint meetings, a live risk register, and a monthly project health report that tells you in plain language whether the project is on track.

If something goes wrong — a vendor goes quiet, a milestone slips, scope starts to drift — I'm the one who catches it and deals with it, so you don't have to.

What's Included:

Everything in the Steady Signal Retainer, plus:

  • Weekly developer or vendor standup attendance — I observe and advise in real time
  • Bi-weekly sprint review — I assess what was committed versus what was delivered
  • Live risk register — a running document tracking open risks, owners, and mitigation steps, updated after every sprint review
  • Monthly project health report — red, yellow, and green status across scope, schedule, and quality, with a plain-language narrative
  • Same-business-day response on urgent issues
  • Escalation calls as needed — if a vendor goes dark, disputes scope, or misses a deadline, I lead the conversation

What's Not Included: Same boundaries as the Steady Signal. I don't write code, negotiate vendor contracts on your behalf, or make hiring decisions. If the situation calls for something outside that scope, we'll talk about it first.
